I almost never give books five stars, but this is one really good fairytale with the right amount of tension and romance in it. I'm really jaded when it comes to romance novels, since I've read a few hundred. This one knocked my socks off. Some reviewers felt that time was wasted in the middle of this book, but I didn't feel that way, as the author spins a fairytale around you. There are fairies and mortals and time travel... oh my! A hunky hero that was divine and a strong heroine that hates beautiful men. What a juicy conflict the author creates and conflict between the protagonists is what makes or breaks a novel. Then she throws in a wicked beautiful fool of a male fairy to mess it all up some more.

I couldn't put this little treasure of a book down. I loved the love scenes. They were just right and not overdone or underdone or cheesy. This is one cute fairytale with lots of imagination, but if you just want to get right to the sex scenes, it doesn't happen, but the suspense of it all is delicious. I liked the waiting and the suspense the author creates. She creates some really suggestive scenes throughout and leaves you weak just thinking about it all. She makes the story 'climax' at just the right time. She makes you drool in anticipation of how Hawk will claim Adrienne, after all his talk of falcons and horse training... oh my! When he finally does claim her, the author is very unique in her telling of it and it's totally yummy and drawn out until you can't stand it... and then you are drooling through the claiming, wishing you were Adrienne!

In the meantime you have a lot of feisty fiery things going on to keep you entertained. Adam the fairy is just beautifully wicked and conceded! Hawk is a dream come true, but alpha male all the way, and Adrienne a modern 20th century woman who won't be anyone's fool. A delightful tale all by itself without the sex scenes. That's what makes me give a romance book five stars. Could it hold up on the story alone without sex and yes this one does as the author spins a whole lot of fun. However, the sexual tension involves falcon hoods, ropes and darkness and more... yes... oh my! I enjoyed every moment of this book, but it might not be for everyone, as you don't get to the sex scenes until 2/3 of the way through. I was okay with that, since by the time you get there, you can't cut the sexual tension with a knife, as it's stung so tight and hard. Delightful!

Beyond the Highland Mist (Highlander) Overview

An alluring laird

He was known throughout the kingdom as Hawk, legendary predator of the battlefield and the boudoir. No woman could refuse his touch, but no woman ever stirred his heart - until a vengeful fairy tumbled Adrienne de Simone out of modern-day Seattle and into medieval Scotland. Captive in a century not her own, entirely too bold, too outspoken, she was an irresistible challenge to the sixteenth-century rogue. Coerced into a marriage with Hawk, Adrienne vowed to keep him at arm's length - but his sweet seduction played havoc with her resolve.

A prisoner in time

She had a perfect "no" on her perfect lips for the notorious laird, but Hawk swore she would whisper his name with desire, begging for the passion he longed to ignite within her. Not even the barriers of time and space would keep him from winning her love. Despite her uncertainty about following the promptings of her own passionate heart, Adrienne's reservations were no match for Hawk's determination to keep her by his side....
